Beverly Hills 90210: Seventh Season

The CW's new revamp of 90210 seems to be finally hitting its stride while the original series begins to wind down on DVD.

This is the seventh season of the series and fans will miss Luke Perry's character Dylan. It was also the last season for Kathleen Robertson playing Claire. Robertson has appeared in many independent features, including a few from director Gregg Araki.

"90210" still features an uneasy mix of real life issues (racism, abortion, etc.) along with the soapy melodrama and love triangles that fans expect.

Season Seven is not one of the series' strongest seasons, but the DVD set is not a total loss. There are several standout episodes and the older cast members have an easy chemistry that lifts the show over the rough patches.

Fullscreen video looks decent and the audio sounds good. The major problem with the DVD set is that there are no extras at all.

Fans of "90210" will want to buy this season and keep collecting the series while casual viewers are probably better off with a rental. The show is very uneven and this season was not among the best. It's certainly a step down from season 6, which featured Luke Perry and Jennie Garth's classic drug problems.

The lack of extras also makes it hard to recommend the set for anyone but the biggest fans of the show.
