90210 - The Third Season

The third season of the CW spin on the iconic 90s prime time soap "90210" will go down as the year the show became gay. Former Abercrombie & Fitch model Trevor Donovan had showed up on the CW series in its 2nd season but it wasn't until the third year that his character, Teddy, came out of the closet with all the confusion, uncertainty and fear as anyone would. The upside was that Teddy was allowed to date, hook up, and even get invited to a 3-way!

Besides Teddy's coming out, "90210" also focuses on the fact that our cast is entering its senior year in high school. An earthquake shakes up the trendy zip code in the season opener but lots of other jolts come throughout the season. Naomi deals with her rape, siblings Annie and Dixon live life post-divorce of their parents, and Silver (Jessica Stroup) is the victim of the vindictive Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes), who switches her bi-polar meds with placebo. Shocking, right?!.

Bonus features are numerous on the DVD release. Cast commentaries are there for select episodes, deleted scenes, a featurette about Teddy's coming out, behind the scenes feature with stars Matt Lanter and Michael Steger, a "90210" wedding feature and a feature focusing on the senior year of our 90210-ers.

Back to the gay presence on the show, the one downside throughout the season is that the writers seemed to forget that they could have storylines that didn't have a gay component to it, and Teddy was often not in the mix with some of the other stories. So, it was not a huge surprise that in the upcoming 4th season Donovan is only set to appear in a handful of episodes and will more than likely fade into the background... or off the zip code altogether!
