The Good Wife - The Third Season

Lukas Akerley READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Season Three of CBS' legal drama, The Good Wife, can be summed up in two words: strong women. As plotlines thicken and the line between personal and work life is blurred, Alicia Florrick is anything but "The Good Wife."

Alicia Florrick, played by Emmy-winner Julianna Margulies (2011 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series), becomes an all-around badass as she balances motherhood, work as a third-year associate and mentor, all while having an affair with her boss.

One outstanding performance by Margulies comes midseason during episode 14 called "Another Ham Sandwich". While being questioned in front of a jury about her affair, she calmly yet authoritatively tells someone off. Other strong women include Kalinda Sharma, played by Emmy-winner Archie Panjabi (2010 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series) and Diane Lockhart played by Christine Baranski. As Kalinda continues to be the intuitive investigator for the firm, she attempts to mend her broken relationship with Alicia as well as hide her dark past. With her fluid sexuality and thigh high boots, Kalinda is not afraid to break a few of her adversaries' knee caps.

Baranski's character, Diane, acts as the firm's moral compass and is forced to lead the firm when her co-partner faces disbarment. This season continues in vein of the previous seasons by being smart, funny, and featuring cases ever so subtly ripped from the headlines. There is not a single actor or actress in this series that lacks chemistry, charm or wit. As a bonus, Michael J. Fox and Martha Plimpton return as guest stars.

The six-disc set includes all 22 episodes from the third season. Bonus features include a look at Alicia's growth in a featurette called "The Good Wife: A New Beginning." Other features include "Research and Development," "A Bi-Coastal Affair," and deleted scenes.
