EDGE READ TIME: 5 MIN.

Wondering who the dancer was that jumped off the rock with Lady Gaga on the "American Idol" finale on Wednesday night?

He was Mark Kanemura, best-known for being a finalist on Season 4 of "So You Think You Can Dance" He just finished Lady Gaga'sMonster Ball tour and continues to work with Gaga on promotional appearances for her "Born This Way album."

The Hawaiian born Kanemura started dancing when he was 13, according to the fansite markkanemura-online.org, and was soon involved in musical theater productions of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and a production of "Grease," choreographed by Marcelo Pacleb, "the mastermind of the highly acclaimed 24-7 Danceforce Productions."

"Mark was 14 when he first began working with Marcelo," his fansite bio continues.. "At the time, Mark's family was going through a divorce and his mother was having difficulties paying for rent, buying food and other necessities-- having money to pay for dance class didn't seem like an option but Marcelo saw the "potential with [Mark] as a dancer" and offered him a job at 24-7, helping out to teach classes in exchange for dance lessons."

He went on to compete on a talent show called Destination Stardom where "he and 11 other 24-7 dancers won the $25,000 group grand prize. He has also appeared in the Hawaii Ballet Theatre's production of the "Nutcracker." He's also appeared on Miss Hawaii Scholarship Pageant, choreographing for the show."

His big break came with his 2008 appearance on "So You Think You Can Dance 2008".

"He started off the season paired with Chelsie Hightower and the two danced their way into the Top 10 and into the hearts of millions of viewers all over the world. Having made it to the Top 10 ensured Mark would be with the "SYTYCD" post-show for the So You Think You Can Dance Tour 2008, where he and the rest of America's favorite dancers would tour across the country dancing and meeting the fans that helped launch them into stardom...

On September 20, 2008, the Top 11 of "SYTYCD Season 4" (including Mark), along with 2 alternates, hit the road for a 41 city dance tour, performing popular routines from the show and meeting their loving fans. The Season 4 Tour ended on November 17, 2008, marking the end of Mark's "SYTYCD" journey but the beginning of the rest of Mark's bright career."

He recently told the New York Post that dancing with Gaga was "a dream come true. It sounds so generic to say that, but at the same time, people who know me know that working with her was so specific to me. That was the one job I put out into the universe. I just had to, had to, had to dance with this amazing artist. There's just something about her that I need to be around and experience...

"You wake up, go throughout your day and end up on stage with this incredible freak. I could not believe that I was doing that. I was so drawn to her was because I felt the way that she viewed art was relatable to me. She gave me courage to be who I was, and who I wanted to be and sometimes it's hard to wear that freaky self that I am. She's really inspirational. The journey itself has been incredible."

Nothing, though, can top the exposure of dancing with Lady Gaga before an estimated audience of 29.3 million on Wednesday night.

Though their performance isn't without controversy. Already commentators are condemning the performance of "Edge of Glory," some calling it "raunchy" and others finding fault with Gaga and Kanemura jumping off the rock at the end of the song. Is Gaga condoning a suicide pact?

Whatever it was, it capped a spectacular performance that made the rest of the show anticlimax? Scotty McCreery may have won, but it Kanemura who provided the show with much needed eye candy.
