HONOLULU (AP) It's taken a long time, but Nordstrom has finally opened its first full-line department store in Hawaii.
Thousands of expectant shoppers were waiting when the doors to the store opened yesterday morning at Ala Moana Center.
Some people waited hours, with many coming for free cosmetic makeovers given outside before the grand opening.
President of Merchandizing Pete Nordstrom says the company has wanted to be at Ala Moana Center for a long time.
The company actually announced an agreement with the shopping center in 1996. But the deal was abandoned four years later.
Nordstrom has hired 600 employees for its new store, with 500 from Hawaii.
