Joy Behar Misgenders Caitlyn Jenner Four Times on 'The View,' Apologizes

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

Joy Behar had a gender brain fart on "The View" on Friday when she misgendered Caitlyn Jenner in a discussion about the television personality and Olympic champion's run for California governor. Jenner announced her candidacy earlier today and is enlisting the help of Donald Trump's former campaign manager Brad Parscale in what looks to be a heavily contested primary. Parscale had a very public meltdown last October.

According to The Wrap: "After the show took a commercial break, Behar returned with an apology, seemingly realizing her mistake and blaming it on a lack of sleep.

"So first of all let me apologize for my pronoun mixup. I think I just didn't get enough sleep last night," Behar said. "I had no intention of mixing them up, and I tried to correct it immediately, but whatever, it just came out. So I'm sorry if anybody was upset by that."

Jenner, who transitioned six years ago, identifies as trans, yet Behar called her "he" multiple times during the show. The Wrap noted that Behar "used the wrong pronoun twice in one sentence before correcting herself" as she discussed Jenner's campaign announcement, saying, 'he's got this guy Brad Parscale running his campaign – her campaign, rather."

Yet despite her apology, Behar was slammed on social media:

Queer journalist Yashar Ali tweeted: "Joy Behar misgendered Caitlyn Jenner at least four times on the View this morning. Caitlyn transitioned over six years ago. I don't know why Joy misgendered her but it's an important reminder that we don't misgender people even if we don't like their politics."
