Demi Lovato 'Too Queer' to Be With Cisgender Man

Demi Lovato said she is "too queer" to be with a cisgender man, Out reports.

In a new cover feature for Glamour, Lovato explains that she's been re-evaluating different parts of her life since her 2018 near-death heroin overdose – during which, she said, she suffered three strokes and a heart attack. Her sexuality and queerness are among those areas Lovato's re-examined. The pop star isn't ready for labels just yet, though.

"I know who I am and what I am, but I'm just waiting until a specific timeline to come out to the world as what I am," Lovato said. "I'm following my healers' timeline, and I'm using this time to really study and educate myself on my journey and what I'm preparing to do."

Lovato said that when her brief July engagement to Max Ehrich came to an end, she took it as "a huge sign. I thought I was going to spend my life with someone. Now that I wasn't going to, I felt this sense of relief that I could live my truth." She explains that when she hooked up with a girl, "it felt better. It felt right."

"Some of the guys I was hanging out with–when it would come time to be sexual or intimate, I would have this kind of visceral reaction," she continued. "Like, 'I just don't want to put my mouth there.' It wasn't even based on the person it was with. I just found myself really appreciating the friendships of those people more than the romance, and I didn't want the romance from anybody of the opposite sex."

"Demi Lovato: Dancing With The Devil," a new documentary series on the pop star, will premier March 23 on YouTube. It is reported to present the most in-depth look into the "Give Your Heart a Break" singer.
