Frayed or Fab? 'RuPaul's Drag Race' Fashion Recap, Episode 7

Matthew Wexler READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Each week, we take a look at the queens' final runway looks and deliver a verdict of "frayed" or "fab." But before we recap this week's runway, we must give it up for RuPaul himself, who discarded his usual flashy two-piece suit (often designed by Zaldi Goco) and, instead, opted for head-to-toe beatnik black – verdict: FAB!

Back to the runway... Category is: "Bead It!" The queens brought out their best baubles and beads to jingle-jangle down the runway, and while some turned the accessory into finely-crafted fashion, others found themselves unstrung by the challenge.

While most of us fantasized about Barbie's boyfriend, Ken, or Stretch Armstrong, Denali has been "obsessed with lamps" since he was a little drag queen in the making. That childhood fantasy came alive in a massive chandelier that lit up the runway. Verdict: FAB

"I'm a little Tinkerbell made of plastic," said Ros as she vamped down the runway. Though the corseted back and intricate beading showcased meticulous construction, Ros looked stiff – better on the pages of J.M. Barrie's classic than the stage. Verdict: FRAYED

LaLa Ri was all beads and not much else in a Mardi-Gras-inspired bodysuit. "When the taints go marching in!" exclaimed Ru, though there wasn't much else to get excited about. Verdict: FRAYED

Gottmik delivered a mod mini in red latex with an anal bead-inspired headpiece that even power bottom porn star Yoshi Kawasaki would have a hard time handling. "Anal mountain high enough!" said Ru. Verdict: FAB

Olivia Lux found inspiration on the playground, sporting a bigger-than-life wig adorned with chunky hair beads, playfully painted overall skirt, and sneaker wedge. Verdict: FAB

"Something old, something new, something bloody?" asked Ross Matthews as Utica arrived on the runway with another quirky interpretation. Her bloody bride, gilded in pearls and beads and dripping in crimson, was a marriage headed for divorce. Verdict: FRAYED

Kandy Muse took a note from the judges and elevated her fashion game this week, sporting a large brimmed hat adorned with beads, luxurious faux-fur stole and beaded pasties for an alluring reveal. Verdict: FAB

"Glamazonian Zulu African Warrior" is how Symone described her beaded creation, which dripped with sensuality and empowerment. Symone's Instagram post reveals that she often works with a limited budget, and all images and video are created on an iPhone, encouraging young queens in-the-making to find creativity regardless of their resources. Verdict: FAB

Tina Burner also found inspiration in the obvious for a Mardi Gras-influenced runway look with two reveals that did little to Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler. Verdict: FRAYED

Third time's a charm. Eliott with Two Ts also turned to Mardi Gras but scrolled back the hands of time in a 1920s flapper dress, taking "a bulky material like Mardi Gras beads" and make it "slimming, sophisticated and classy." Verdict: FAB
