Michele Bachmann Claims God Picked Trump Over Cruz for GOP Nomination

Donald Trump may be a twice-divorced serial philanderer, but according to former US Rep Michele Bachmann, he was raised up over his former evangelical competitor Sen. Ted Cruz by the Almighty to be the Republican presidential nominee. Politico reports.

"I don't think God sits things out. He's a sovereign God. Donald Trump became our nominee. I think it's very likely that in the day that we live in, that Donald Trump is the only individual who could win in a general election of the 17 who ran."

Bachmann's comments came during an interview for Christian Broadcasting Network that filmed last Friday at her home in Minnesota.

"I actually supported Ted Cruz. I thought he was fabulous, but I also see that at the end of the day God raised up, I believe, Donald Trump who was going to be the nominee in this election," she said.

One of the reasons Bachmann may be so Gung Ho on the Trump campaign is that in June, she was named to the billionaire candidate's "evangelical advisory board." The board, which reads like a Who's Who of the anti-LGBT religious right also includes Focus on the Family founder James Dobson, Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr, Faith and Freedom Coalition founder Ralph Reed, among more than two dozen names.

Never afraid to drag God into politics, Bachmann has used religion in her unending criticism of the Obama administration's stance on LGBT rights.

In April 2015, Bachman asserted that Obama's policies on LGBT rights and Iran would bring on the rapture.

During an interview with end times radio host Jan Markell, Bachmann claimed that divine punishment would come to America because of legal abortion and marriage for gays and lesbians. She argued that God would lift a "hedge of protection" over "pagan" America "and we will suffer the consequences as a result."

Later in September 2015, speaking again to Markell, Bachmann warned that the United States might be destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah.

"When we raise our fist to a holy God and say that we are going to redefine marriage, we are going to be okay with paying a Planned Parenthood to cut up innocent baby parts and sell them for research, that clearly is a problem and as we have seen God render judgment in the days of Noah, in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah and so forth throughout history," Bachmann said. "What the prophets have told every generation is that there is a just God and the people must repent and turn to him. So too in this day of wickedness in our own culture, we need to do the same. We need to repent, and we need to confess because a holy Savior is coming to save us and redeem us from this sin-sick world."
