On Sunday, April 3, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., The LGBTQ Focus Foundation will celebrate its launch at The Gilded Lily in New York City. This inaugural event of the newly founded LGBTQ Focus Foundation will honor Wes Powell, Chairman of the Board of the Hetrick-Martin Institute. City of New York Councilman Corey Johnson will present the award and HMI will receive proceeds from the event.

"Through his work professionally and his many varied philanthropic commitments and achievements, Wesley Powell consistently shows what one great leader can do for the community," said organizer Robbie Regina. "His support of HMI inspires us all to do more for the at-risk youth of New York, and the betterment of us all as a society only beginning to grapple with "best-practices" in mental health and challenging systemic barriers like poverty and discrimination."

Founded by long-time HMI supporter and LGBT community leader Linda Gottlieb, The LGBTQ Focus Foundation provides funds and awareness to support LGBTQ community organizations and their allies. The Foundation partners with gay and gay/straight alliances to fund innovative leaders and programs that promote equality, offer stability, educate and provide a safe environment.

Powell is being honored in consideration of his long history as a leader and philanthropist in the LGBT community and elsewhere. As current chairman and long-time member of the HMI Board of Directors Powell is leading HMI in its efforts towards national expansion, bringing much needed trainings in "best-practices" to youth advocates and youth serving organizations nationwide.

Internationally renowned HMI Ambassador DJ Lina will be providing the entertainment. Stoli is sponsoring an open bar. There will also be a silent auction.
