Sleeping With Other People

Here's an embarrassing situation. You show up at a sex addiction recovery meeting and run into the person you lost your virginity to 12 (or so) years earlier.

That's what happens to Jake (Jason Sudeikis) and Lainey (Alison Brie) in the charming comedy "Sleeping with Other People."

Jake has found that when he gets bored with a relationship, breaking up with a woman in the standard fashion can lead to hurt feelings. It's much easier to sleep with her best friend or sister and end their relationship naturally. Lainey, on the other hand, makes appointments with her gynecologist and leaves the door slightly ajar while she fucks him on his desk.

With maturity and similar pathologies, the two become instant friends. Though there is a caveat: if they ever have sex together again it could destroy their relationship. Instead they talk. They tell each other everything, relaying various sexual exploits and Jake even teaches Lainey how to masturbate like a DJ, all the while absolutely abstaining from each other.

Though Lainey still pines after her married lady doctor (even though his wife is expecting) and Jake may destroy his carrier by seducing his boss, friends notice that this platonic coupling has noticeably improved each of its members. And even though they do things like show up at a child's party high on ecstasy, stroking the other adults and teaching the kids sexy dances, their friends encourage them to stick together.

A phenomenal cast including Adam Scott ("Parks and Recreation"), Amanda Peet ("Identity Thief") and Natasha Lyonne ("Orange is the New Black") are the real force behind this movie. This is a very talky script, and if the dialogue were left to less talented actors, or actors without as much television experience, the movie would be disastrous. But the performers are charismatic, sexy and endearing.

This "Sleeping with Other People" DVD includes English and Spanish subtitles and a Digital HD copy. It's not a bad little rom-com for a lonely night at home or to use on a date as an aphrodisiac for a night of action.
