Watch: Santorum Tells Raven-Symoné Gay Marriage is Wrong

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

For some reason, Rick Santorum still thinks he can be the president of the United States, despite atrocious polling numbers. But that won't stop him from bringing his anti-gay marriage views on daytime talk shows.

Santorum stopped by "The View" Wednesday and explained to co-host Raven-Symone (who has never officially come out as gay but said in the episode she's "a part of the gay and transgender community) why he thinks same-sex marriage is wrong, Gawker reports.

The actress asked the GOP presidential hopeful, "Why can we not have equal marriage rights."

"The greater purpose of marriage that society has always valued is to bring men and women together so when they have children, there's a permanent bond by which those children can be raised by their natural mother and natural father," he said. "And when you have a law that says, as the Court said, that marriage has nothing to do with children anymore, then what you're gonna have is you're not gonna have a society encouraging the behavior that is in the best interest of children and the future of society."

Raven-Symone said gay people have kids, who thrive and are the future. But Santorum wasn't buying it.

"Historically, and I think sociologically, if you look at today, is in the best interest of that child to be raised by their natural mother and their natural father," he said. As Gawker, and the rest of the Internet, points out, this is patently untrue.

Raven-Symons didn't get to ask Santorum another question but co-host Michelle Collins was able to point out his terrible poll numbers and asked him why he even bothers anymore. In typical Santorum fashion, he said he is never going to give up his bid for president.
