Paul Blart Mall Cop 2

Paul Blart (Kevin James) heads to Vegas for a retail security convention with his teenage daughter Maya (Raini Rodriguez) in "Paul Blart Mall Cop 2". It's been six years since his heroics at the West Orange Pavilion Mall, but Paul still has a pretty good feeling that he's going to be the keynote speaker at the event.

When this doesn't work out for him, and he finds out that Maya (the only family he has left in the world) is going to be moving across the country to go to UCLA, he may risk losing some of his legendary self-esteem. Fortunately for him, a vengeful gambler (Neal McDonough) and his accomplices are secretly swapping priceless works of art with replicas from the hotel's collection. So it looks like New Jersey's most popular Mall Cop may have another opportunity to save the day.

No critic will admit that this is good movie. No one will call it a scathing indictment of our justice system or a funny, family-friendly sendup of the cop movie tropes. But all of those elements exist here. For all its cartoonish lack of conventional sophistication, Kevin James is a talented comedian and the movie is a popular hit.

I'd much rather show this to my family than many other movies that are mired in bourgeois stereotypes of wealth and success. You could do much worse than a young female lead who is smart and attractive but has an unconventional body type. In fact, nearly all of the women in this movie are stronger and more capable than the men. Even though the action revolves around the guys, in the end, the women are never victims.

The Blu-ray comes with a bunch of behind-the-scenes exclusives that are all produced in the same spirit (and with the same humor) as the movie, including a gag reel and deleted scenes.
