The Force is about to get faaabuulous!

NPR reports that the Star Wars universe is getting its first LGBT character in the form of a "capable but flawed Imperial official named Moff Mors who also happens to be a lesbian."

More will be making her debut on the page rather than onscreen in the upcoming Penguin Random House novel "Star Wars: Lords of the Sith."

Author Paul S. Kemp describes Mors as: "a promising officer of the Empire, who was assigned to an undesirable post at the far end of the galaxy. At nearly the same point in her life, her wife was killed in a transport accident, and the weight of these burdens led to Delian becoming lax in her duties, and left her personal life in disarray. The events of "Star Wars: Lords of the Sith" occur a few years after her loss."

"There's a lot of diversity; there should be diversity in 'Star Wars,' " Random House editor Shelly Shapiro told Star Wars blog Big Shiny Robot. "You have all these different species, and it would be silly to not also recognize that there's a lot of diversity in humans."

CNN points out that the inclusive move is not exactly pioneering since Star Wars video games and a previous book series have included gay relationships. However, the Moff Mors character marks the first time an LGBT character has been part of the "official" "Star Wars" world as outlined by its new owner Disney in 2014.
