What's HOT South Florida :: 05/01 - 05/07

Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 5 MIN.

A week ago Monday, Village Pub had their first Dragacide Tournament of Champions and congrats goes out to Kiara Lords for winning and Calypso Monroe for being 1st Alternate. On Thursday was the annual Dining Out For Life. In Fort Lauderdale the event benefited Broward House and 14 of the Hotspots staff went out to eat at Rosie's to support this great event. On Friday I made a romp around town which started at Gregarious (look at this HUNKY bartender... I knew they were serving drinks, but I didn't know Beef came with it... LOL).

My next stop was Hunters for Fresh Fridays to say hello to my buddy DJ AJ Reddy who is building the crowd there with his wonderful music. After Hunters I went to PJ's and finally had the privilege of meeting PJ. What a nice comfortable place to hang, play pool and have some cocktails. I then headed to Rumors, where I unfortunately missed the show (drag on time, what?), but got to see Willow Bierce Austin and her heathers.

Also on Friday, some of the Hotspots team went to the Renaissance Orlando near SeaWorld for the MBA Orlando Pride in Business Awards. The venue was breathtaking, and the hosts, Jorge Estevez and Miss Sammy, were engaging and hilarious. There were also performances by the Orlando Ballet, among others. All-around, the awards were great! Saturday night, I headed to the Manor to see Ben DelaCreme of Ru Paul's Drag Race and not only did she pack the house and put on a great show, but she was a really nice person. It was really nice meeting her and getting to know her! Sunday morning was the annual Miami AIDS Walk and once again thousands came out to support this great event.

This is HOT

If you can imagine Lethal Weapon with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as younger, hotter ex-boyfriends, you'll have the basis for "Hot Guys With Guns," a modern take on the old-fashioned detective story landing on DVD May 6th from Wolfe Video. It's Chinatown meets Boystown in first-time Writer/Director Doug Spearman's (a 2009 Outfest Screenwriting Lab fellow) action-comedy-thriller starring Marc Anthony Samuel (TV's "General Hospital") and newcomer Brian McArdle. Ex-boyfriends Danny (Samuel) and Pip (McArdle) become a West Hollywood version of Nick and Nora Charles when they set out to solve a string of gay sex-party robberies. The films also stars Alan Blumenfeld ("The Ring," "WarGames") and Jay Huguley ("12 Years a Slave"). Bonus materials include a blooper reel highlighting some of the film's funniest outtakes. In this comedy-action-thriller, an actor taking a night class for aspiring private detectives - to help him win a part in a TV show - bumbles into a real life crime investigation with his ex-boyfriend in this hilarious film from Doug Spearman. "Hot Guys With Guns" has a runtime of 105 minutes is not rated and can purchased at WolfeVideo.com for only $24.95
