What's HOT South Florida (02/13 - 02/18)

Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 6 MIN.

This past weekend was filled with a lot of parties around South Florida. Rumors celebrated their 21 year anniversary all weekend long. Friday was the Daisy Deadpetals show; Saturday was the cake cutting and champagne toast with a blowout drag show starring Serena ChaCha, Misty Eyez, Ashley Blake, Daisy Deadpetals, and Glitz Glamour (great to see her back in town for the weekend); and Sunday was the country fair which packed the parking lot all afternoon.

Congrats to Shawn, Nick, Brendan and the entire staff on a great anniversary weekend and we wish them many more years of success! Also on Friday, Bubble Gum Fridays at the Manor featured the China White Reunion and all I can say is Miss Cori and the Elephant brought back many memories. Sidelines Sports Bar was showing the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, which after all the controversy in Sochi I was impressed with. Saturday night, Broward House celebrated their 25th anniversary with a cocktail reception at the Hilton Marina Inn on 17th Street Causeway.

It was nice to see so many movers and shakers in one room. I was so happy to be invited to this, it was such a milestone for such an incredible agency! Later that night, I went over to the Manor to hear hottie Brazilian DJ Romullo Azaro spin for the first time in South Florida, and let me tell you I was impressed and cannot wait to hear him again. I was also there to see the lovely Puerto Rican Princess Lorna Vando (one of my favorites). Afterwards it was Discotekka bound to celebrate the birthday of Robert Lamas (Milancita's boyfriend). Discotekka has become the after-hours Mekka (pun intended...LOL).

Tracey B. Wilson, the Little Monster photographer for Lady Gaga's North American tours has been able capture the beauty of the Little Monster community in her new book "Heal This Way: A Love Story."

Written by Gaga's biggest fans, and photographed by Tracey B.Wilson, "Heal This Way: A Love Story" is a compilation of photos, letters, and quotes from LGBT youth. The book shares the heroic stories of young adults being bullied, coming out of the closet, and thoughts of suicide; all while encouraging us to love each other. "Heal This Way: A Love Story" is a teaching tool, a gift that starts a conversation between parents and their kids, or teachers and students about what it means to be gay, and about the effects of bullying.

Created to start a dialogue on what is often an emotional subject, "Heal This Way: A Love Story" is contextualized by the levity of pop culture, and the unbelievably positive spirit of Gaga's Little Monsters. The books sales benefit Gaga's Born This Way Foundation, providing services for at risk LGBT youth. Visit them at HealThisWay.com.
