Despite Defending Phil Robertson, Sarah Palin Never Read Anti-Gay Comments

Sarah Palin was one the first right-wingers to rush to "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson's side when he received a backlash for linking homosexuality to bestiality in an interview with GQ magazine earlier this month. But the former Alaskan governor revealed in an interview on Monday that she hasn't even read Robertson's controversial remarks.

Palin told Fox News' Great Van Susteren that she hasn't read the GQ article even though she made headlines for defending the reality star, the Huffington Post reports.

"I haven't read the article," Palin said. "I don't know exactly how he said it. But, Greta, what he was doing was in response to a question about a lifestyle that he disagrees with. And yet he has said over and over again, he doesn't hate the person engaging in a lifestyle he disagrees with. But in response, he was quoting the Gospel."

For a reminder, here is what Robertson said in his GQ interview:

"It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man's anus," the reality star told GQ. "That's just me. I'm just thinking: There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical."

"Everything is blurred on what's right and what's wrong. Sin becomes fine," he went on to say. "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men. Don't be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers -- they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."

Palin also said, on a different Fox News program, that she's appalled that A&E officials suspended Robertson from the "Duck Dynasty" reality show. She added that even her best friend "who happens to be gay" is upset that the network got rid of Robertson, HuffPo reports.

"She emailed me to say she is outraged at A&E for the hypocrisy here, for the things that they air on their program that she finds offensive, yet A&E doesn't fire a star or somebody involved in their programming based on what they said but they would when it comes to Phil on 'Duck Dynasty' and this friend, she said that she would boycott A&E and that network, and uh, um, she's not the only one," Palin said.

Palin herself knows a thing or two about the reality TV business. According to Wikipedia,"Sarah Palin's Alaska" was a reality show hosted by the former Alaskan Governor. According to Palin, the show's aim was to bring "the wonder and majesty of Alaska to all Americans". The series, which began airing on TLC in November 2010, was eight episodes long, and was part travelogue, part documentary series. In 2011, it was announced that the show would not be renewed for a second season.
