WNBA Players Get Fouls For Kiss on Court

Well, this is a new one: two WNBA players were assessed fouls for kissing during Thursday night's game between the Phoenix Mercury and the Minnesota Lynx, CBS Sports reports.

Mercury star Diana Taurasi and Lynx player Seimone Augustus got into a small argument during the game's fourth quarter. After shoving each other a bit, the two players got in each other's faces and Taurasi decided to give Augustus a kiss on the cheek.

The referee split the two women up and gave each of them a foul for the quick peck.

USA Today notes that the reporters said that the two athletes have known each other "for a very long time and there is genuine affection to complement the competition." Affection apparently didn't sit too well with the referee.

"Can we all agree that this is excessive? The fouls, not the peck," USA Today writes. "Male and female opponents have solved their differences in a variety of innocuous ways. There are butt taps, head pats, hugs, fist bumps, and now there's a friendly cheek peck."

After the game, Augustus discussed the incident to reporters, according to WNBA.com.

"As far as me and Diana and the tango dance that we had, I always say she just wanted some of my deliciousness," Augustus, whose team won the game, said.

Taurasi made a similar statement, joking, "I was just trying to make sweet love. That's about it."

A number of people commented on the YouTube clip of the kiss, which currently has nearly 250,000 views.

"So distasteful smh they should be suspended...if two MEN KISSED? and yall say its ok and laugh I would boycott the NBA Some things shouldnt be done on the court.." one user wrote. "She shouldn't have done that. People may? start to think some of thee WNBA players are lesbians.lol," another said.
