Gay Porn Star Rod Daily Announces He is HIV-Positive

Gay porn star Rod Daily took to Twitter Tuesday to announce he is HIV-positive, making him the second adult-film performer in about a month to announce they are infected with the HIV virus, the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

"Drumroll please!! I'm 32 years old and I'm HIV positive. Acute HIV, which means I recently was infected. For that I am blessed," Daily, whose real name is Joshua Rodgers, tweeted on Tuesday.

Daily's girlfriend, porn actress Cameron Bay, said she was HIV-positive last month, which forced the porn industry to temporarily shut down. The moratorium was lifted on Aug. 28 after the Free Speech Coalition, the porn industry's trade group, said Bay's partners had been tested and were HIV-negative.

"I'm blessed for the fact that I caught it so early that I can blast that shit with meds," Daily added on Twitter. "With the tests I have done the doctors have figured out that I was infected within the last month. My antibodies just showed up on a test this week which is scary because they didn't a week ago."

He told the Daily News that he knows he contracted HIV last month, adding, "I know I don't have a crazy lifestyle."

Daily has been making gay porn since 2010 and he's worked for studios that require him to wear a condom. Daily added that he has been dating Bay, 28, for more than a year but did not want "to draw any conclusions how he was infected," the Daily News writes.

The New York Daily News reports that the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, an advocacy group that urges for the mandatory use of condoms in porn, tweeted that the FCA did not have "a shred of credibility left w/ news of performer @Rod_Daily's acute (i.e. recent) #HIV infection."

"We wish Mr. Daily good health with his newfound sero-status, and know that people can live well with HIV. However, we remain gravely concerned the porn industry continues to endanger its workers by ignoring prudent health and worker safety laws by shooting adult films with out condoms," AHF President Michael Weinstein said in a written statement to the L.A. Daily News.

"It's been a crazy week, a crazy 2 weeks. When something like this happens you just have to accept it. I'm not down I'm not out," Daily tweeted Tuesday. "Had to pinch myself a few times no doubt. But the sun still shines on my face and its warm. Can't take my heart ever. I love life, blessed."
