Romney Wants Gay Grandkids to be 'Gay'

Although Mitt Romney has been flip-flopping on many social issues, the former Governor of Massachusetts recently said that he would want his grandkids to be happy if they were gay, CBS News reported.

Some may find it hard believe, as the GOP presidential nominee has made it clear he does not support marriage equality, but Romney made comments on Wednesday while on the Spanish network Univision's "Meet the Candidates" forum, saying that he wants his grandkids to be happy even if they are gay.

The politician was asked what his advice would be to one of his five sons if he came out of the closet and wanted to marry a man. At first, Romney kiddingly said that his sons "are married, so I'd be surprised."

"But I have grandchildren and I love my children and I love my grandchildren," Romney said. "And I would of course want them to be happy."

"My view is this: That individuals should be able to pursue a relationship of love and respect and raise a family as they would choose," the Republican continued. "I would like to have the term marriage continue to be associated with a relationship between one man and one woman."

Nevertheless, Romney concluded by saying that keeping marriage defined between one man and one woman "doesn't prevent to people of the same gender living in a loving relationship together having a domestic partnership."

In May, the Associated Press reported that Romney reaffirmed his views on gay marriage and stated that same-sex couples should not be allowed to marry, unlike President Barack Obama, who announced earlier this year that he endorses marriage equality, which makes him the first president to support gay marriage.

"My view is that marriage itself is between a man and a woman," Romney said. "This is a very tender and sensitive topic, as are many social issues, but I have the same view that I've had since - since running for office," he added.
