John Travolta's Former Pilot Says They Had a Six-Year Affair

A former pilot has come forward and told the National Enquirer that he had a relationship with movie star John Travolta for six years in the 1980s.

Rumors surrounding Travolta's sexuality have haunted him for decades. In this most recent incident, the celebrity's own former pilot, Doug Gotterba, told the Enquirer they were together for six years after meeting in February 1981, when the actor interviewed him for a pilot job. They were a couple by September, he alleges.

"I know the date (the affair began) because I still have the log book and records," Gotterba, 62, told the Enquirer. Gotterba says they flew to Monterey, Calif., and had an expensive dinner with a "fantastic" bottle of merlot at a high-end resort.

"I got the sense I was being courted," Gotterba said. "As we walked from the restaurant back to the room, John suddenly said, "Hey, would you like a massage?'" The couple allegedly then had sex.

"John was gentle but very passionate. The next day he told me with a big smile on his face, 'I really enjoyed last night,'" Gotterba told the tabloid.

He claims he went on a number of romantic getaways with the "Grease" star, including vacations to Hawaii, Amsterdam and Kenya.

"Sometimes he'd bring women along as beards, but he would ask me to join him in his suite and we'd spend the nights together. It was our little secret," Gotterba said. He also told the publication that he urged Travolta, who is now 58, to get a girlfriend as a cover up. The actor began to date Brooke Sheilds.

"There was no chemistry between them. They'd smile for the cameras and everyone assumed they were a couple," the pilot said.

Their relationship started to go south and ended in 1986, he alleges. "He'd show up on my door many times, unannounced, to check up on me," the pilot said. "He'd disappear into my bedroom and go through my drawers. He always tried to catch me cheating on him."

Gotterba says they last met up in 1992, after Travolta married actress Kelly Preston.

"We were making small talk when suddenly I blurted out, 'So, John, tell me. Now that you're married, do you still prefer men -- or women?'" he asked. "Well, Doug, I still prefer men," Travolta replied, according to Gotterba.

The New York Daily News reports Travolta's camp dismissing the story as "ridiculous."

The story comes on the heels of accusations made in May. Two unknown male masseurs claimed the movie star sexually assaulted them. EDGE reported that the "Pulp Fiction" star tried to have sex with the masseurs during massage sessions, which resulted in one of the masseurs filing a $2 million sex assault suit against Travolta.
