READ TIME: 1 MIN.

A film about the secret romance between closeted actors Tab Hunter and Anthony Perkins is in the works, thanks to out actor Zachary Quinto and producer/director J.J. Abrams, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

"Tab & Tony" will be based on Hunter's first-person account of his struggle to come to terms with his sexuality in '50s Hollywood. The film is also inspired by Hunter's 2005 memoir "Tab Hunter Confidential: The Making of a Movie Star," in which the actor discusses balancing his boy-next-door image in the studio system with being gay. The movie will also focus on Perkins, best known for his role as Norma Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's iconic film "Psycho." Hunter turns 87 next month, but Perkins died of AIDS-related pneumonia in 1992.

Both Abrams and Quinto will produce "Tab & Tony" along with Allan Glaser, a studio exec and producer who is also Hunter's longtime partner. Also producing is Neil Koenigsberg, a legendary publicist, THR notes. Doug Wright, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his Tony Award-winning play "I Am My Own Wife," is writing the screenplay.

The film currently is looking for a director and two actors to play Hunter and Perkins, so start dream-casting your faves now.
