Over the pandemic, OnlyFans has gone from a niche platform to nearly a household name. The app is a subscription service, allowing users to make money off of content they create by attracting fans (subscribers) who pay a monthly fee. After launching in 2016, OnlyFans began to gain popularity in 2019 with the New York Times reporting on how it changed sex work and the adult entertainment industry as people flocked to the app to sell X-rated videos and pics to fans.
