Mauro Garza, the owner of popular gay night club Pegasus in San Antonio, TX, is running for a Republican Congressional seat this year. He announced his campaign for the Texas 20th district seat on Twitter last Friday. Garza previously ran for the seat of his neighboring district last year but failed to fill the seat vacated by Lamar S. Smith (R-San Antonio).

Garza's campaign is of particular interest due to his seemingly conflicted business and political lives. Garza owns one of the nation's most popular gay nightclubs, yet is an avowed Trump supporter.

SACurrent reports: "If you don't remember Garza from the crowded 2018 TX-21 Republican primary, all you really need to know is that he cavorted about in a red MAGA-esque cap with the slogan 'Make TX-21 Greater.' Consistent if anything, his social media feeds are awash with Trump retweets and anti-AOC memes."

Word of his second campaign sparked the outrage of activist groups in Texas, and one has even called for a boycott of the Pegasus club.

Local activist group, Protest the Peg, has called for a boycott online, and organized a protest of the club which took place yesterday.

Garza's campaign Facebook page however, promotes a message of LGBTQ tolerance:
"I do not believe in discriminating against Race, Color, Religion, Sex, Age, Disability, Sexual Orientation, or National Origin.
LGBT+ Rights:
-Marriage Equality
-Tax Equality for Domestic Partners"

Election Day for the upcoming Congressional seat is March 3, 2020.
