Kacey Musgraves' T-Shirts A Cold Retort to Cancun-Tripping Ted Cruz
Sen. Ted Cruz is getting a cold shoulder from fellow Texan and LGBTQ-supportive country music star Kaycee Musgraves, and it's clad in a novelty T-shirt the pop star created in response to the ardent Trump supporter heading to the warm climes of Cancun while his state contends with the aftermath of severe weather and
Pitchfork reports that Musgraves is now selling the T-shirts, which are emblazoned with the slogan "Cruzin' for a Bruzin'."
The "Follow Your Arrow" singer made no bones about her icy intentions.
"Texas is cold," Musgraves posted at Instagram, along with a photo of the T-shirt. "I can be cold."
Sales of the shirt will benefit "Casa Marianella, Feed the People Dallas, and the American Red Cross of Central & South Texas," Pitchfork noted.
The Associated Press reported on how Cruz, an ardent Trump-supporter,
fled Texas on a family vacation even "as his home state struggles with a powerful winter storm that left many residents without power or safe drinking water."
Cruz headed out on Feb. 17 but, as criticism mounted, turned around and headed back home on the 18th.
Cruz threw his support behind the false narrative that the 2020 election had been stolen, and subsequently "emerged as a leader in former President Donald Trump's push to overturn the results" of the election, the AP noted in a followup story.
Those actions drew harsh criticism and calls for Cruz's resignation after Trump's untruths helped foment a deadly attack on the nation's capital last month.
The latest gaffe is seen as another blow to Cruz's 2024 presidential aspirations.
State Republicans in Texas, the AP noted, "declined to come to Cruz's defense" as outrage grew over the Cancun episode.
" 'That's something that he has to answer to his constituents about,' Texas GOP Chair Allen West said" in response to questions about the trip. " 'I'm here trying to take care of my family and look after my friends and others that are still without power,' West said. 'That's my focus.' "
Cruz said his ill-judged excursion was "obviously a mistake," the AP story reported.
Sounds like another T-shirt slogan, should Musgraves be looking for a followup.
