Senator Trent Lott’s Escort Snafu Continues
Move over Larry Craig? Not just yet.
Singing Senator Trent Lott's surprising resignation from Congress has brought forth a slew of speculation as to the reasons why. From taking advantage of the opportunity to become a professional lobbyist to what is by far more the interesting: being exposed as having procured the services of a male escort.
The story emerged yesterday on the website Big Head DC, run by blogger Rob Capriccioso. He claimed to have emails from San Antonio-based male escort Benjamin Nicholas that substantiate the accusation. In them Nicholas plays coy claiming "Trent is going through his fair share of scrutiny right now and I don't want to add to it." The link to Big Head DC is currently down.
The story was immediately picked up, most notably by PerezHilton.com, which immediately put it in the lead spot.
But on his site 15 Minutes, Nichols claims otherwise. "It looks like a Washington DC-based blog called BigHeadDC is making claim that there was (or, is) a working relationship between myself and Senator Trent Lott. There are falsely pieced-together quotes that serve no purpose other than to sensationalize a completely fabricated scoop.
"I will continue to offer a great sense of confidentiality to the people I see. I have not, nor have I ever seen or had contact with Senator Trent Lott. It's as simple as that. It never happened."
He also wrote the Huffington Post that the report was a fabrication. "There's nothing to be said, as Lott and I have no connection whatsoever," Nicholas wrote in an email to The Huffington Post. "How these 'quotes' have been fabricated are beyond me. The Senator is someone I have had no personal dealings with, ever."
The Huffington Post story by Max Follmer reported further on "allegations of sloppy sleuthing" by Big Head DC's founder, Rob Capriccioso.
"Earlier this month," Follmer wrote, "Radar Magazine dropped Capriccioso as a freelancer after he reported that veteran newsman Sam Donaldson's phone number was in the records of infamous DC Madam Deborah Jean Palfrey.
"What Capriccioso failed to note, Radar wrote in an online post, was that Palfrey insisted that the single telephone call to Donaldson had nothing to do with prostitution, and was simply a wrong number.
"Capriccioso defended the Lott piece, telling The Huffington Post 'Big Head DC stands by our quotes and item 100 per cent,' but he declined to share any of the emails Nicholas allegedly sent to the blog."
The original post had a link to Nicholas flexing on camera.
