The Makers of 'Shiva Baby' to Make Queer Teen Sex Comedy
"Shiva Baby" writer-director Emma Seligman and star Rachel Sennott got the green light for their next feature.
Titled "Bottoms," the film will be a comedy about "two unpopular queer girls who start a fight club to have sex before their high school graduation," The Hollywood Reporter details.
Seligman and Sennot will co-write the screenplay, the article said, and be distributed by Orion Pictures, a branch of MGM. Seligman is set to helm the comedy, with Sennot in a starring role.
Seligman's directorial debut, "Shiva Baby" - based on a short film Seligman also made - was a critical success and popular hit for the duo.
That film centers around Danielle, a bisexual Jewish woman who does sex work while attending college. Accompanying her parents to a shiva - a Jewish ritual for the mourning of the dead - Danielle encounters a client, Max, who is there with his wife and baby. She also encounters a former girlfriend.
Critics took note of the comedy's rapid pace and effective use of suspense tropes as a way of amplifying the film's anxious blend of sexual secrets, religious faith, and family tensions.
