No one would ever accuse this Russian Orthodox Church offshoot official of ever following fashion trends.

As the lumbersexual look that saw full beards return as a popular trend among gay men enters its third year, the leader of sect of Russian Orthodox Christianity is calling on followers to grow beards to "protect themselves from homosexuality."

According to a report in the Moscow Times, Metropolitan Kornily, Primate of the Putin-backed Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church, is telling men to grow beards since facial hair will make them less likely to be "corrupted" by same-sex relationships.

"God set down certain rules. The Lord created everyone with a beard. No man can resist his creator," Kornily told Russia's National News Service. "It's made a monstrous thing to see men's clothing and hairstyles changing."

In March, Kornily met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the Church and "prospects for its development,"

Kornily presumably will not be attending Bear Week set for July 8 through 16 in Provincetown.
