Just when you thought GOP candidates couldn't get any worse....

After months of speculation and promises, did Kid Rock finally make good on his threat to run for public office? On Tuesday night in Detroit during a speech that included some very transphobic rhetoric, the five-time Grammy nominee may or may not have announced his bid for Republican nomination to represent Michigan in the United States Senate.

M Live reports that during a four minute speech at his concert at Detroit's newly inaugurated Little Caesars Arena, Kid Rock (born Robert James Ritchie) threw textbook red meat Republican rhetoric at the cheering crowd as he blasted social programs, national healthcare, single moms without jobs, deadbeat dads and the failure to stand at football games during the National Anthem.

But it was his mixed views on LGBTQ rights that raised many an eyebrow.

"And why these days is everything so gay?" Rock told the crowd. "Gay rights. Transgender this and that. I say let gay folks get married if they want and I'm not even close to a death trap. But things shouldn't be this complicated. And, no, you don't get to choose, because whatever you have between your legs should determine the bathroom that you use."

And while the 46-year-old rock/rapper has yet to officially file paperwork for a bid for office, Vice points out that a possible Kid Rock run has already piqued the interest of GOP donors.

"I've had two of the largest donors in the country who wanted to reach out and talk to Kid Rock who basically have said they would support his candidacy if he were to run. And they've offered to do an event for him in New York and elsewhere. And he just hasn't responded," Saul Anuzis, the well-connected former chair of the state Republican Party told Vice. "And I've talked to people who I know are personal friends of his as well as his PR people. So I think he's being very coy and close to the vest on this stuff, and that's why people are questioning whether he's sincere and how real he is."
