Caitlyn Jenner Hit with Backlash for Congressional Baseball Shooting Joke

Monday Jun 19, 2017

Caitlyn Jenner is back in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

The reality star came under fire last weekend after making a joke about the recent Congressional baseball practice shooting in Alexandria, Va.

Jenner's remarks came during a Q&A event Friday at the College Republican National Committee's convention in Washington, D.C. Though the event was closed to press, someone recorded a video of Jenner and shared it on the College Republican Federation of Virginia's Facebook page, The Daily Mail reports.

In the clip, Jenner, 67, is reportedly heard joking about suspected shooter James Hodgkinson, who was a Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) supporter. During the incident, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, a Republican who endorsed Donald Trump during his presidential campaign, was injured and taken to the hospital in critical condition. He's condition has since been upgraded to "serious."

"Fortunately, the guy was a really bad shot - liberals can't even shoot straight," Jenner said, according to a report by The Washington Post.

The audience laughed and applauded Jenner, who went on to say:

"First of all, nobody deserves what happened out there. There's no justification. There are crazy people in the world. We have to minimize that type of stuff."

After her comments made their way online, Jenner has faced a backlash on Twitter, The Daily Mail notes. "Will & Grace" star Debra Messing called Jenner's remarks "disgusting" and "absolutely shameful."

Jenner has yet to address her remarks.
