While most people have been quick to condemn Kevin Spacey after out actor Anthony Rapp accused the two-time Oscar winner of sexual misconduct when he was 14 years old, Spacey has found a defender in 85-year-old journalist Gay Talese.

During the New York Public Library's annual Library Lions Gala Monday night, a Vanity Fair reporter asked Talese who he would like to write a profile about.

"I would like to talk to Kevin Spacey," the author said.

Vanity Fair reported, however, Talese then grew "agitated" and explained his reasoning as to why he wanted to profile Spacey, saying he feels sorry for the former "House of Cards" star.

"I would like to ask [Spacey] how it feels to lose a lifetime of success and hard work all because of 10 minutes of indiscretion 10 years or more ago," he said.

"I feel so sad, and I hate that actor that ruined this guy's career. So, O.K., it happened 10 years ago...Jesus, suck it up once in a while!" he said of Rapp.

Things didn't stop there. Talese then compared Spacey to the Dalai Lama.

"You know something, all of us in this room at one time or another did something we're ashamed of. The Dalai Lama has done something he's ashamed of," he told Vanity Fair. "The Dalai Lama should confess . . . put that in your magazine!"
