Scott Stiffler is a New York City based writer and comedian who has performed stand-up, improv, and sketch comedy. His show, "Sammy’s at The Palace. . .at Don’t Tell Mama"---a spoof of Liza Minnelli’s 2008 NYC performance at The Palace Theatre, recently had a NYC run. He must eat twice his weight in fish every day, or he becomes radioactive.

    Correct, it’s about affirmation! We have to move away from years of abstinance based thinking and embrace and accept whats going on on our ccommunities if we want to make a difference. Young people, of all backgrounds, benefit from reinforced messages. Safer sex practices need to be discussed more and openly in classrooms accross the nation if we want to reach the next generation. Has anyone thought of making a safer sex infomercial for social networking site distribution?

    There are many internet interventions targeted through Social Networking Sites and hook-up sites, there are even national guidelines for the same. The problem is getting sites to work with public health, many allow some work but when sites charge for advertising public services messages cannot compete with the paid advertisers. Manhunt had done ground breaking work but they hired a "strategist" who is just that - being strategic and looking for ways to make money and increase PR and reduce "liability" with little thought for those that pay them every month.

    The irony is that while this article emphasizes the stigma, industry (porn, websites, etc) has used the term as a label equivalent to "premium" to commodify unprotected sex and various salable items depicting it - as do some who prefer it.
