Vanguard Retrospective Exhibition' Celebrates 5 Years of Transnational LGBTQ Vietnamese Activism

The Dorchester Art Project (DAP) is currently presenting the Vanguard Retrospective Exhibition, which celebrates 5 years of transnational activism, featuring LGBTQ Vietnamese art from around the world. The show opens Friday, April 26 with an opening reception from 6-9pm.

The show will coincide with the release of Vanguard 5, the latest issue of Vanguard, an underground literary and art zine made by the LGBTQ Vietnamese community and curated by Dorchester-based artist Khanh "Aiden" Nguyen and Worcester-based artist Thanh "Nu" Mai.

"The retrospective is a convergence of the international LGBTQ Vietnamese community through the presence of our bodies and the presence of our art," Nguyen said. "Hosting the exhibition in Dorchester, my hometown and one of the largest Vietnamese communities on the East Coast, will be one of many pivotal moments in the transformation of our community and leadership. The future will most certainly be femme and queer."

The exhibition features pieces from artists based throughout the United States, Vietnam, Europe, and Australia. Vanguard 5 will highlight artwork from over 30 artists.

For a limited time, Vanguard is accepting sponsorships and offering exclusive exhibition walkthroughs, lifetime subscriptions, and merchandise in exchange for your support. For more information, contact Vanguard at Vanguardzine@gmail.com or visit www.Vanguardzine.com.

The DAP is located at 1486 Dorchester Avenue in Boston, MA 02122. Vanguard Retrospective Exhibition will run from April 26 to May 19 in the gallery spaces, open to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 12:00-6:00pm.

About Vanguard: Our mission is to empower and endorse the visibility and individuality of self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/trans, and queer Vietnamese artists and writers. We hope to establish a safe platform where LGBTQ individuals can freely express themselves and have their voices heard. Lastly, we aim to foster solidarity and unite the LGBTQ community through art, literature, and activism.
