Radio Host Sorry for Lesbian Conversion Comments

A nationally syndicated radio host is apologizing for controversial comments he allegedly made, where he claimed he would "change" any "hot lesbians" that are willing to date him, Jezebel reports.

WNCI Morning Zoo host Jimmy Jam apparently offended listener Elizabeth Lessner, a restaurateur from Ohio, as she took to Twitter and Facebook to spread the word about his remarks.

"WNCI's Morning Show is hosting a contest to see if one of the morning guys can 'change' a hot lesbian if he dates her. I wish I was kidding," Lessner tweeted.

An official for Clear Channel Media and Entertainment told Jezebel that the host's comments were not intended to be "instructional and educational," however.

"How many times have you watched a TV show or a movie that started with a theme or action you might have found objectionable, then end with a lesson for all of us." he said. "The joke in this bitt is not on the lesbian or the GBLT community, it's on Jimmy."

"Nobody on the show thinks that Jimmy can 'turn' a lesbian straight," Michael McCoy told the website. "The joke in this bit is not on the lesbian or the GBLT community, it's on Jimmy." He also said that the Jam's statements came from a story that has national headlines this week.

Cecil Chao Sze-tsung, 76, a billionaire tycoon from Hong Kong, announced that he would pay $65 million to any man that could woo his 33-year-old lesbian daughter, Gigi Chao, who married her partner in Paris earlier this year, EDGE reported.

Soon after Jezebel reported the incident, Jam apologized for his comments but it doesn't seem as though Lessner was moved by apology as she tweeted, "Thanks @jezebel: MT @lauren_639 @jimmy jam just read an apology on air. Was clearly written for him by someone else sounded canned/insincere."

According to Gay Star News, Lessner says this isn't the first time the radio host made anti-gay remarks.

"He clearly said something like, 'let Jimmy turn you straight by going on a date', and said you had to be a 'hot lesbian' to participate," she said.

A number of Jezebel's readers left comments reacting to the article. One person wrote, "I am a gay man and I listened to this yesterday and it never even occurred to me that this was in any way homophobic or sexist. They are always doing bits that make Jimmy look like a chump for cheap laughs. It's comedy.. lighten the f*** up!"

Another reader offered a different perspective: "The ability to even SAY something this stupid is an epic piece of straight male privilege, and frankly the only reason you're allowed to get away with it is because you're still the big group that people are scared of."
