Two Spanish Soccer Players Kiss After Game Win
Is Michael Sam's kiss is having an impact across the world?
Two Spanish soccer stars pulled a Michael Sam Wednesday and locked lips while on camera after winning the Europa League.
Ivan Rakitic and Daniel Carrico, of Sevilla, a Spanish soccer team located in Seville, Spain, celebrated their major win by kissing. Gay Star News reports social media blew up after the two men kissed, with many speculating about their relationship.
The quick kiss on the lips made international headlines just days after Michael Sam became the first openly gay football player drafted into the National Football League Saturday. When he found out the good news, an emotional Sam embraced his boyfriend and gave him a peck. ESPN filmed the now iconic smooch, which sparked a huge controversy.
While some lauded Sam's accomplishment, and others were totally cool with Sam kissing his partner, others took issue with it. Former pro-football player Derrick Ward went on a Twitter rant, railing against ESPN's coverage as did former basketball player Marshall Henderson, who said he was going to boycott ESPN's "SportsCenter." Additionally, Donald Trump called the kiss "out there." Miami Dolphins' Don Jones was fined by the team after tweeting "OMG" and "horrible" shortly after news broke that Sam was drafted.
