House of Blues Re-opens Tonight

Thursday Aug 29, 2013

The Landsdowne Street music hall House of Blues will re-open tonight after being closed yesterday after the death of a patron on Tuesday night from a drug overdose.

Boston police received a call at 12:45 a.m. yesterday after three individuals, unknown to each other, all reported symptoms of a drug overdose. One of them, identified as 19-year old Brittany Flannigan, a college student from New Hampshire's Plymouth State University, died after being rushed to Beth Israel Hospital. There is no word on the condition of the other two victims, who were also rushed to Beth Israel.

In a related development, a spokesperson for the House of Blues told that the hall, which also hosts a LGBT dance party on Saturday nights called Epic, will re-open tonight. "Officials at the Boston Licensing Board indicated Wednesday that they will hold a hearing on the management of the House of Blues some time next week," the report continued.

"Robert Merner, commander of the Boston Police Department's Drug Control Unit, told the Globe on Wednesday that it appeared that the victims consumed a drug known as Molly, the street name for the drug MDMA, a pure form of ecstasy," the report continued.

"Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley's office said Flannigan's death and the overdose of the other two people are under investigation. Toxicology tests are being conducted, officials said."
