Perfect Strangers - The Complete First and Second Seasons

Perfect Strangers was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. I used to love the slapstick antics of Larry (Mark Linn-Baker) and Balki (Bronson Pinchot), two distant cousins from different places and different walks of life. Balki's naive nature and lack of knowledge of America's life and customs led the series to numerous hilarious fish out of water gags and the popular sitcom ran for eight seasons on the ABC Network. The show is still appealing and very funny, mostly due to the actors throwing themselves totally into their characters and the silly situations surrounding them.

Balki comes to America to live with his distant cousin, Larry Appleton, and turns his world upside down. The two cousins have to learn how to live together and Balki must learn about the traditions and modern technology of America. The DVD set is a thinkpak set consisting of the first 28 episodes of the series on 4 DVDs. The set does have a few major flaws. The picture quality is average at best, with some noticeable flaws on a few episodes that made me wish the show was remastered. The only extra is a clip montage featuring Balki and Larry doing their "dance of joy". A few featurettes, commentaries, and interviews with the cast would have been great. It's a shame they were not included, but fans will be happy just to have the show out on DVD.

"Perfect Strangers" is a very funny show, but the DVD presentation is only average at best. The picture quality isn't great and the extras are barely there at all. I recommend it for fans of the show but I only wish the studio had taken the time to release a more impressive DVD package. Still, this is a must-have for fans of the show and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it again after all these years.
