Grey’s Anatomy-The Complete Ninth Season
"Grey's Anatomy" continues to find new and interesting ways to give its characters PTSD and completely change their lives. Season Eight's climactic season finale left some characters dead, and some changed forever. Season Nine, available on DVD, explores how the characters rebuild their lives and try to find solace after all they've lost.
Season Nine brings a whole host of changes to Seattle Grace-Mercy West hospital. Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) has swapped personalities with her mentor Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson). Meredith is now the nightmare attending and Bailey has become the love-struck teenager. Everyone is still reeling and recovering from the cataclysmic events of Season Eight and the fact that they are now in charge of the hospital.
Season Nine has some great cast additions like Tina Majorino as one of the new crop of interns. Debbie Allen continues her recurring role as Dr. Catherine Avery. Neve Campbell also makes an appearance as one of the Shepherd sisters.
The season still manages to hold up entertainment wise. The only pitfall of the DVD set is the small amount of bonus features. The set includes deleted scenes, but they are the fewest to date. Also, the outtakes aren't particularly as funny as they have been in prior years.
"The Long Road Home" is a featurette that follows Jessica Capshaw playing an amputee and her struggles to deliver a performance. It's interesting to see how pivotal special effects factor into the storyline. "Happy Trails with James Pickens, Jr." seems really out of place. It explores Pickens' love of horses and the cowboy way and how he helps out a charity with a special event each year. The only ties to "Grey's" are interviews with showrunner and executive producer, Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
Fans of "Grey's Anatomy" will definitely enjoy having the opportunity to binge-watch this very intense season. However, be mindful that there aren't as many bonus features as in years past.
