'Twinks4Trump' Creator Approved for White House Credentials
Yup this is real life.
Lucian Wintrich is reporting for Gateway Pundit, which Mic.com calls a "right-wing clickbait blog popular with the alt-crowd."
Gateway Pundit's founder Jim Hoft announced Monday (via Media Matters) his site was approved for White House credentials in January. Both Hoft and Wintrich tweeted pictures of themselves at the White House earlier this week.
Wintrich's Twinks4Trump project gained national attention during the 2016 presidential election. Last year Wintrich wrote a piece for the Advocate called "Man Behind Twinks4Trump Photos: Media Is Wrong About Gay Conservatives."
The project showed half-naked gay men wearing "Make America Great Again" hats. Mic.com reports Wintrich, who is gay, is an open supporter of President Donald Trump, and is often seen wearing the "MAGA" hat on Instagram and refers to Trump as "daddy."
Media Matters calls Hoft a "dangerous troll," writing that his blog "has often served as the single source for completely unfounded reporting that nonetheless catches fire in the right-wing internet world, until it becomes what Kellyanne Conway might deem an 'alternative fact.'"
Wintrich is a "gay conservative mouthpiece" primarily known as the artist behind a "Twinks4Trump" photography exhibit that debuted at the GOP convention last summer. He explained that he aims to be "the first rational voice that the American people have had in White House press in ages." He recently wrote on social media, "I don't consider myself a journalist, I consider myself the future of journalism."
Media Matters also points out Wintrich's lack of experience as a political reporter.
The Gateway Pundit; a Nexis search of his name for the last five years reveals only a handful of articles in which he is quoted, and no bylined pieces. He has authored one opinion piece, describing his pro-Trump art, posted on The Hill last fall. Wintrich has now written about a dozen posts for The Gateway Pundit in the past few weeks; he was previously the subject of several posts on the blog, as well as on Breitbart.com, before beginning this correspondent position.

In an email to Mic.com Wintrich said he deserves to be part of the White House press pool, which means he'll have the same access to the Trump administration as The New York Times and CNN. Mic.com's Matthew Rodriguez asked Wintrich if his Twinks4Trump project should exclude him from the White House.
"Do I think that being a gay conservative with involvement in the arts should exclude me from reporting? That's like me asking you, 'Do you think your being a queer Latino New Yorker who enjoys female rappers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Flannery O'Connor impacts your ability to do your job at Mic?'" he said.
